4. Purchase Order and Quotation Terms and Conditions

Cancellation Terms Outside of Lead Time Policy

Samtec will allow cancellations and reschedules when requested outside of the lead time of the part number and quantity ordered. Normally, standard lead time is 15-20 working days for quantities up to 1000 pieces. Contact factory to confirm lead time. Application Specific Products (ASP/SEP/MEP/SCF) are special orders and must be approved by Samtec prior to cancellation. Cancellation charges may apply for any product cancelled within the standard lead time window.

Note: Lead times may change based on material availability.

Return Guidelines

Samtec is a build to order manufacturer with lead-times of 8-10 work days, therefore returns are limited to selected full strips or products approved by Samtec for return.

5/5 Charges

If material is required to manufacture a non-standard catalog item, a set up charge may apply if material is not available at the time of purchase. The set up charge is $500 per special component. It is not a one time set up charge, but is applicable each time the item is ordered if material is not available at that time. The set up charge is waived if the purchase order is placed for 5,000 pieces or more.

The charge is ONLY applicable if material is not available at the time of purchase. The 5/5 charge typically applies to mold-to-position bodies or bodies with a molded pad, alignment pin, or locking clip. A 5/5 charge can be avoided if you change the design to use a standard catalog position, change the design to remove the -A, -P, and /or -LC which is causing the 5/5, or place an order for 5,000 pieces of the non-standard item.

Changes

No changes or modification of this quotation shall be binding unless signed by an official of this company.

Design

Where tooling and/or engineering charges are quoted, such tooling remains property of Samtec, unless otherwise negotiated. On all tooling designed in whole or part by Samtec, we reserve the right to use such design on any tool for any other customer.

Credit Approval

This agreement is expressly conditioned on Purchaser's maintenance of a credit history satisfactory in form and substance to Samtec. If purchaser fails or refuses to provide internal financial information reasonably requested by Samtec in connection with any Purchase Order, Samtec may repudiate any Purchase Order without liability and refuse to ship any Goods.

Scheduling

Orders must be completed within 90 days after entry.

6. High Speed Connector Performance Rating

Samtec has recently changed its high speed connector rating system. Our new Speed Rating is based on the -3 dB insertion loss point of the connector system. The -3 dB point can be used to estimate usable system bandwidth in a typical, two-level signaling environment.

To calculate the Speed Rating, the measured -3 dB point is rounded up to the nearest half-GHz level. The up-rounding corrects for a portion of the test board's trace loss. The resulting loss value is then doubled to determine the approximate maximum data rate in Gigabits per second (Gbps).

For example, a connector with a -3 dB point of 7.8 GHz would have a Speed Rating of 8 GHz/ 16 Gbps. A connector with a -3 dB point of 7.2 GHz would have a Speed Rating of 7.5 GHz/ 15 Gbps.

The Samtec Speed Rating is best considered as a figure of merit for comparing relative performance between connectors. The Speed Rating becomes less meaningful in systems using multi-level signaling or where crosstalk or impedance mismatch are more critical parameters. For assistance in determining a connector's suitability for specific high speed applications, please contact our Signal Integrity Group.

We are currently obtaining Speed Ratings for many of our high speed connectors using a new test procedure. During this transition period, some characterization reports based on different test methods and rating approaches will still be available. Please read the reports carefully to note these differences, and be aware that comparing data between old and new reports might not lead to valid "apple to apple" comparisons. 7. High Speed Connector Test Procedures

Samtec has recently changed its high speed connector test procedures and rating system. We believe that our new process gives a better representation of our connectors' performance in real-world applications.

Our new process is based on the use of high frequency microprobes. Connectors are soldered to small printed circuit boards (PCBs), using standard, Samtec recommended pad footprints. Very short, controlled impedance traces are routed from the pads to electrically optimized probe launch points. The effects of the pads and traces are included in the measurement. These effects result in slightly conservative loss numbers, but the total effect is very similar to what can be expected in a real application.

The new method should not be confused with Samtec's Final Inch®. Final Inch® takes the characterization process a bit further. In Final Inch®, a complete PCB break out region is designed and optimized for both high speed electrical performance and cost effective manufacturability. Final Inch® includes electrical effects of the entire break out region. Some effects of concern include via field coupling, via stub resonance, and long trace coupling and losses. Such effects are very minimal or non-existent in our connector characterization process.

Click here for more information on Final Inch® or contact our Final Inch Group.

8. Product Obsolescence

Samtec strives to never discontinue or obsolete a product series. In the rare occasion where that is our only option, our goal is to provide six month'™s notification before discontinuation, allow customers to place final orders to meet their inventory requirements, and assist them in locating alternative products and suppliers. Note, this is a rare occurrence; in Samtec'™s 30+ year history, we have discontinued only a few products.

Samtec does not discontinue product series based on slow sales. Samtec is a build-to-order manufacturer which enables us to support either high volume or small order quantities. Likewise, our flexible manufacturing model minimizes capacity bottlenecks which occasionally cause other manufacturers to discontinue slow selling product lines.

Samtec owns all of our tooling, so we are often able to manufacture interconnects not listed as standard in our catalog. In this case, a minimum order of 5,000 pieces or a $500 set-up charge may be required. This charge/MOQ applies only to material that Samtec must order, or it covers a set-up charge from our vendors. The 5,000 piece MOQ or $500 set-up charge is waived if we have the material in inventory.

Finally, modified and custom products account for about 20% of Samtec sales. We are rated #1 in willingness to modify a product and turn-around time on new products by Bishop and Associates. Designing, manufacturing, and delivering unusual products is a Samtec core competency.

9. Philanthropy Policy

Samtec™s Social Solutions Association, or SSA, is dedicated to supporting Samtec associates and their families as well as assisting with the needs of our local community where our contribution will have the greatest impact and maximum benefit.
