Models - 3D, PADs, Electrical

Models Section

One of the primary goals of Samtec is to quickly provide you the resources that you need to make your experience with us as easy as possible. Our vast array of models that are available free of charge is one of the services we provide that helps to achieve this goal.

Samtec offers several different types of models available for free download, including Electrical Models, 3D Models, as well as a large library of PADs and OrCAD models.

These models are available to help streamline your design process as much as possible. Use the simple tools below to find the model you need. Learn more about what is available in the Additional Model Information section at the bottom of the page.

3D Models

3D Models are available as Basic Detail Models and Full Detail Models in multiple formats and variations.

Choose a series to be directed to your model.

PADs/PCB Footprints Library

PADs/PCB Library model files are available in many formats and save designers hours of tedious, yet critical effort.

Choose a series to be directed to your model.

Electrical Models

Electrical Models are available as HSPICE, PSPICE, cadence, SPECTRAQuest, Mentor IXC, IBIS V.32 or S-Paramenter.

Additional Model Information

Samtec has a vast library of electrical models available for download that sometimes may leave you with questions. This section will help to answer some of those questions. You can also contact our Signal Integrity Group for further assistance.

Basic Details 3D Models

Don't let the word basic fool you. These 3D models are available in multiple formats and provide enough detail for 95% of users who require 3D models. A match is available for the vast majority of specific part numbers and even if it isn't, almost all available parts within a series can be generated.

You'll also have an easy time working with these basic models as they only require you to work with one file as opposed to multiple files in the advanced versions. Additionally, your file size will be much smaller and much quicker to download. In most cases your model will be available in less than 90 seconds.

Models will be available in all basic formats including Pro/E, Solidworks, Mechanical Desktop, IGES, STEP, Parasolid, ACIS, Acrobat/PDF, and many more. To view a model use the simple selection tool above.

Full Detail 3D Models

When basic 3D models just won't do the job, full detail 3D models will. Full detail models are available in three standard formats for the majority of Samtec series (Parasolid, STEP, and IGES). While the file size is larger and can be slower to download, these models are assemblies which are delivered in multiple files, allow for simulation testing, and also include non-FFF details.

To access an advanced 3D model simply use the tool above.

PCB CAD Libraries

Samtec PCB libraries and footprints save designers hours of tedious, yet critical effort. In many applications, Samtec generated libraries allow true cut and paste application of package outline, text, and recommended solder pad data. At a minimum, they provide the designer with a significant head start in library generation by providing critical component information in an easily customizable format.

Samtec's full connector PCB libraries feature a complete part file incorporating footprint, schematic symbol, attributes, pin mapping/swapping, gate mapping/swapping, and alpha numeric pin names in a PADs format.

To review all of the PCB CAD libraries available in a PADS format for a specific Samtec product series that is released for sale, select the series name using the tool above.

PCB Footprints

For optimal mechanical and electrical performance, connector pad designs often deviate from standard IPC designs. Typically, these critical dimensions are communicated to the PCB designer through traditional print drawings and data sheets. The designer must physically transfer this critical information from the data sheet into the footprint he is creating.

The slightest error in this process can lead to major headaches when boards are fabbed and components are placed. With Samtec library parts, this critical translation is already completed, with the resulting footprint files checked against a known-good connector print.

Samtec offers a PADs ASCII file that can be imported into Altium Designer V5 and Expedition CAD tools. Samtec also has available a true Eagle library (version 5.11.0) and an Allegro 15.5 format library (a .DRA and .PSM file). To review all of the PADs ASCII, Eagle, and Allegro library files available for a specific Samtec product series that is released for sale on a part-by-part basis, select the series name using the tool above.

SPICE / IBIS Electrical Models

Electrical Models are available in Single Line and Multi Line structures and can be supplied in the following formats - SPICE, or Touchstone (S-Parameter. Samtec's testing and modeling capabilities use a variety of test equipment and software. View the Samtec High Speed Test Equipment and Software List here.
